The Auld Dubliner, 20th June 2009
Photos and impressions by Ian Gough who works in Dublin and lives in Virginia Cavan.
Well it was truly GREAT!!
We were delayed by very heavy traffic to Dublin. We decided to take an alternative route via Navan and arrived after Jai and The Wishing Well had already started setting up to play.
We greeted Jai as we entered: the pub had put the band directly inside the main entrance to the left so we could not help bumping into him.
Then down again into a maelstrom of swirling bodies: the place was packed to the gills!!
The crowd kept moving inside and outside gradually filtering out existing visitors and ushering in newcomers. All in all three distinct “groups” paid homage to “The Wishing Well”. Homage IS the word: the band were EXTREMELY well received and people around me RAVED at the sound.
What struck most people was that the music, approach and words were all ORIGINAL and not just another cheap copy of some existing artist!!
The Irish love music and the violins really got everyone going!! Sarah the lead violinist really wowed the crowds with her fast and accurate bowstring movements. Amazing!!
Some really good shots and a lovely one of Jai and Rivkah outside in the street after the band had finished performing and the lads were packing up the hire car. Also amazing to behold: quite dramatic just seeing what could be fitted into the car.
So we all four had a brief chat outside in the street and then Riv who was clearly bomb tired said to Jai that she had to get back to the hotel room and they all trooped into the car and Jai waved outside the passenger window where he was happily ensconced and the car silvery grey with English registration plates, pulled off into the dusk and that was that.
I had to introduce Jai to two fans outside the pub immediately after the band finished playing as he walked out: they were almost in awe!!
Damn but they are good!!!
Thanks a lot document. It’s not advice and written customer, and this sort of.
